Intro

Since its inception in 1917, Bayerische Motoren Werke (BMW) has established itself as a symbol of engineering precision, luxury, and German craftsmanship. BMW has evolved over the decades, becoming a leader in the global automotive industry. The iconic blue and white emblem is an homage to BMW’s Bavarian roots, encapsulating the brand’s heritage. The symbol has graced cars, motorcycles, and engines, representing both the company’s heritage and its forward-thinking ethos​.

With over 100 years of legacy, the goal was to refresh their iconic logo in a way that honors their past while creating an evolution of their iconic logo. 

Challenges & Goals

01. Preserving Heritage for a Modern Redesign:
The first challenge was maintaining the iconic status of their emblem while introducing a more vibrant and modern look. The goal was to retain the historical Bavarian blue and white colors while updating them to reflect a bolder and more future-focused identity. 

 

02. Differentiating:
The second challenge was making the iconic blue and white color scheme feel fresh and modern. The goal was to update the colors to a more vibrant hue reminiscent of the classic BMW Zandvoort Blue.

 

03. Updating the BMW M Logo:
The BMW M logo, known for its motorsport pedigree, also received an update. The goal was to modernize the famous tricolor stripes of blue, violet, and red, which have been integral to the M logo since 1973. Blue stands for BMW, red represents motorsport, and violet symbolizes the fusion of the two. The updated design aims to reinforce the dynamism and speed of the M series while ensuring it resonates with both longtime enthusiasts and future audiences. The goal was to continue celebrating BMW’s racing heritage while bringing a contemporary take to the logo. 
 

Process & Designs

Logo Redesign:

The project began with an in-depth discovery phase to understand her vision and identify the gaps in the old brand. 

M Badge Redesign:

New visual identity that included a new logo design, color palettes, typography, and graphics. 

M Badge:

Website prioritized user experience to ensure the design was not only visually appealing, but intuitive and easy to navigate. 

Motorsport Logo:

A comprehensive brand guide was created to ensure consistency across all brand touchpoints and maintain brand integrity as her business continues to grow. 

Electric Badge:

A comprehensive brand guide was created to ensure consistency across all brand touchpoints and maintain brand integrity as her business continues to grow.
