(01) INTRO
Axel Thesleff is a electronic musician and producer based in Helsinki, Finland. Thesleff's music blends melodies and rhythms to create electronic deep bass symphonies.
Akriza is an electronic music producer based in Colorado, USA. His productions span a diverse range of genres, weaving together instruments and musical styles from across the globe.
(02) THE OPPORTUNITY
Their music collaboration focused on sound texture, energy, and the raw emotional force of deep bass rhythms. The goal was to create an art piece that captured the emotional and sonic qualities of the artists.
The 1st track "On the Gradient" developed through syncopated basslines that shift from soft to hard, creating a sense of transition and contrast. The 2nd track "Optimal Pressure" evolved into a heavy and powerful track that evokes the sensation of being pulled through a portal.
(03) THE APPROACH
We started with an in depth conversation with the producers about their collaboration and their vision. The creative direction focused on visually translating the energy of the sound. Both tracks share heavy sonic qualities with morphing subs, syncopated drives, and pressure point drops built for big sound rigs. The sound directly guided the composition, geometry, contrast, and sense of movement across the artwork.
(04) CONCEPTs
We began by creating a series of analog designs using stippling techniques. Beginning on a physical medium allowed the work to retain a sense of organic imperfection before working in digital form. We drew inspiration cymatics, waveforms, gravitation waves, space, and supermassive black holes. The designs used texture as an expression of sonic grit, symmetry to evoke balance within chaos, and a monochrome color palette to anchor the design with a raw atmosphere; creating space for listerner interpretation.
(05) THE COVER
The illustration is constructed from circles, crescents, lines, and repeated geometric shapes. These forms behave like wave patterns, sound waves, and orbital systems without resolving into a single interpretation. Their repetition creates rhythm. Their distortion creates movement. Their convergence creates the intensity.
A circular outer structure contains the composition, while the open central channel pulls the eye inward. The monochrome palette intensifies the sense of depth, contrast, and pressure. Dust and grain textures introduce a subtle roughness that mirrors the sonic distortions embedded in the music.
(06) VISUAL EXTENSION
To further extend the release identity, an exclusive hoodie design expanded the release into merch, turning the release into a commemorative artifact for fans.
(06) LISTEN
The final result transforms the collaboration into something visual, immersive, and alive. The artwork acts as a point of entry into the sonic world Axel Thesleff & Akriza created together. “Optimal Pressure” and “On the Gradient” were released on November 13, 2025, and is available across music platforms.
