THE CHALLENGE

The project called for an album cover that reflected the energy of the double single release. Their music collaboration focused on sound texture, energy, and the raw emotional force of deep bass rhythms. The challenge was to create a cover that captured the emotional and sonic qualities of the new tracks. The artwork needed to communicate the dynamic contrast between all the sound elements in the album while resonating with fans.

The first track "Optimal Pressure" evolved into a heavy and powerful track that evokes the sensation of being pulled through a portal. The second track "On the Gradient" developed through syncopated basslines that shift from soft to hard, creating a sense of transition and contrast. Both tracks share a dark, cinematic, and powerful tone; morphing subs, syncopated drives, and pressure point drops built for big sound rigs. The tracks are designed to transform dancefloor spaces, inviting listeners into a heightened and otherworldly state. This feeling of motion, discovery, and tension formed the core inspiration for the creative direction.

PROCESS & STRATEGY

The creative process started with an in depth conversation with the artists about their collaboration. They emphasized that they wanted to keep the artwork abstract and organic. The artwork focused on visually translating the energy of their sound. The creative direction was guided by using texture as a reflection of sonic grit, symmetry to evoke balance within chaos, and a monochrome color palette to anchor the design with a raw atmosphere.

The process began by creating black ink drawings using stippling techniques. By starting with ink on paper, the goal was to keep the foundation handmade, with a human touch and organic imperfection that grounds the artwork. A series of designs were explored with varying radiating shapes, fractal patterns, and distortion to echo the energetic shifts for "Optimal Pressure" & "On the Gradient". References to cymatics, waveforms, eclipses, space, and portals guided the creative direction that would lead to the final artwork.

CREATIVE SOLUTION

The final composition captures the essence and energy of the tracks. A circular compostion forms the core of the cover. Inside it, repeating crescent structures create a symmetrical wave that pulses. The layered geometry resembles a portal that conveys the experience of being drawn through sound. The monochrome palette enhances the gritty, dark, and powerful tone while keeping the foucs on composition, contrast, and depth. The subtle dust and grain textures evokes subtle sonic distortions heard throughout the tracks.

Black Ink Drawings

Visual exploration began by creating a series of black ink drawings. Each illustration drew inspiration from natural and cosmic phenomena. This stage served as a foundation for discovering the visual concepts that resonated most with the artists and the music. It allowed the project to move from open experimentation toward a unified direction that held both emotional and aesthetic alignment with the tracks.

To extend the visual identity beyond the digital cover, the artwork was applied across a full suite of physical music formats. These included vinyl, compact disc packaging, and cassette tapes. Each medium presented its own opportunities to highlight different aspects of the design such as texture, contrast, and scale.

Music Platforms

The album cover was also optimized for digital music environments including Apple Music, Spotify, Tidal, Soundcloud, and a looped animation for Spotify Canvas. The monochrome palette and symmetrical structure ensured a strong presence even when viewed at thumbnail size. The design maintains clarity across light and dark theme interfaces, ensuring consistent impact across all major streaming services.

Merch

To further extend the release identity, an exclusive merch collection was created featuring a collaboration hoodie printed with the album artwork. The hoodie incorporates both artists names with the central emblem positioned as the focal point. The merch collection acts as both a commemorative piece for the release and an artifact that deepens fan engagement with the music and its visual identity.
